Molly Schmanke
Howdy! My name is Molly Schmanke and I am a junior at Regis University majoring in biochemistry. In the future, I plan to attend UMKC's School of Dentistry to fulfill my dream of being a general dentist.
I am excited to participate in this service project to gain experience in a health care related community outreach program, to be immersed in a new culture, and to make a lasting impact in the community in Guatemala. One of my biggest goals in becoming a dentist is to perform health-based community outreach. As a dentist, I want to discover and implement different ways to educate people on oral health, especially those who do not have access to adequate dental care. This project will give me much experience and insight into health care outreach and fuel my passion for it. Additionally, this project will allow me to be involved in a culture and community which is different than my own. I believe that understanding and seeing different groups of people is an important party of learning empathy. It will allow me to have greater compassion and drive in the future.
In my free time I like to go snowboarding, read horror books, watch movies with friends, travel, go for walks, and play with my golden retriever (Albus). Some fun facts about me are that I have three younger sisters, my favorite animal is a moose, and I am from Kansas!
